Red Cage Stinkhorn Fungus Time Lapse

A Red Cage Stinkhorn Fungus (Clathrus ruber) erupting from it’s egg over a 48hr period. Looking like an alien creature this fungus dramatically erupts from it’s egg forming a large red cage filled with a brown slime containing their spores and relies on flies for it’s distribution. The rotten flesh smell of the slime attracts flies who get coated in the spore containing slime and carry it away to germinate into a new crop of fungi next year.
