Poor little Henry has been having a weekly treatment (spot on) for mange over 5 weeks but it’s had minimal effect. He has developed the dermatitis that accompanies a mange infestation and is scratching until he draws blood. I have given him a dose of antihistamine to give him a rest from the scratching and also treated him with a topical scabies (mange) treatment used for humans. I’m washing the lotion off after leaving it overnight, then bathing him in “pinetarsol“ and “QV“ bath oil to soothe his irritated skin and soften the plaques of dead skin. Then I have dried him in front of the heater and combed his fur to remove the flaky skin. Now his new, healthy skin is exposed and can respond to a healing ointment. I hope this works as I’m a bit over the daily washing of everything he comes in contact with. And I’m sure Henry will be pleased to be relieved of his itching.
All of Henry’s treatment is with the supervision of a vet.
