The Belgorod Brit explains the mechanisms that feed into why we believe what we do. Most often we internalise opinions and ideas that we don’t understand, purely for emotional reasons, and because we want to be included in societies that appeal to us for obvious or obscure reasons. We come to act on these beliefs out of social, and not rational concerns. While we may understand what we’re doing, and how to do it, it doesn’t necessarily follow that we understand why. This is compounded if we find other people doing the same thing.
In the podcast BB goes deeper into developmental psychology. He examines the way in which we acquire and adopt beliefs, and how we are apt to defend them, even when they turn out to work against our own interests.
