Uli Jon Roth - Sails of Charon - Der Detze Rockt 16 06 2023

Rengen or Daun are between the town “Trier“ (oldest Town in Germany with some roots form the Romans) and the town “Koblenz“ (University town). I think, “Detze“ is named after the small mountain, the “Detzeberg“ (in English “Detze-mountain“). The Festival (Der Detze Rockt) started very small and has mostly underground bands from different countries. Sometimes they manage to get a little bigger bands. The helpers are often volunteers, so be careful and sensitive with critics please. This time they managed to bring “Uli Jon Roth“ to “Detze“. Knows the Devil how they managed it. I just know Uli Jon Roth from the Song “Sails of Charon“ and the Band Scorpions. His playing is outstanding for me. He is one of very few lead- or solo-guitarist who are able to play the guitar without sounding like pain in the astronaut for me. This ability is very rare among lead- or solo-guitarist (in my opinion). It is easy ones talent overloads the song and destroys it. More easily with an instrument which can sounds very high like a guitar. (I respect also other musicians like the one who plays guitar and does not like donuts. But Yngwie Malmsteen with his huge neoclassical guitar-skills is toooo muuuuuch for me, sorry. But I respect Yngwie Malmsteens Skills and not everybody like fat and sweet food like donuts. I do by the way.) But back to Uli Jon Roth and his guitar. His guitar is so outstanding and special like his playing. It has a shape of a lute but with a long upper horn which reminds of the Yin and Yang symbol. And with the Yin and Yang symbol I would describe his playing style in the band. One part is Uli Jon Roth and the other part of the Yin and Yang symbol is the band. It is a kind of harmonious symbiosis and continuum. And it is important so one half is never doing too much. One half does not destroy or harm the other part. But there is more. Uli Jon Roths guitar has more frets and he can play higher notes. He is taking you to the heaven or the sky. So it is not a big surprise the name of his guitar is Sky-Guitar. !BUT! there is more. Uli Jon Roth can not go alone to the sky, alone with his Sky-Guitar. There are very good professional musicians in the band who can play “tight“. They can lean back when it is necessary and be a “trampoline“ or “ladder“ when Uli needs them. Niklas Turmann - vocals, guitar David Klosinski - guitar Nico Deppisch - bass Corvin Bahn - keyboards Anders Johansson - drums What I respect most is Uli Jon Roths relaxed condition while he plays guitar. He seems so cool and “chilled“ (I hope it is the correct English word.). It looks so easy what he does. But he has a lot of experience and he is a huge talent. Once I read, what he plays is often improvised and his guitar-sounds are adjusted for every location specially. If Uli Jon Roth is new for you. I would start with: Scorpions - Sails Of Charon - Musikladen TV () Continue with: Scorpions - We’ll Burn The Sky - Musikladen () And: Uli Jon Roth Metamorphosis of Vivaldi Four Seasons Here you can hear very easily how important are the many frets of the Sky-Guitar. So Uli can play in the terrain of the violin. The Sky-Guitar can bring you to the Sky and to Vivaldi wherever he is now. Thanks Uli Jon Roth for coming to “Der Detze Rockt“ and thank you “Detze“ for bringing “Uli“ to “Detze“. Best Quickwash
