Russian museums . State Historical Museum. A museum dedicated to the history and culture of Russia from ancient times to the present day. The collection of the State Historical Museum, which has been forming for almost one and a half centuries, has more than 4.5 million museum items. At the main exhibition you will find many rare exhibits: from mammoth tusks brought from Siberia, and a marble Greek sarcophagus to faience sculptures by M.A. Vrubel and paintings by I.E. Repin. The museum complex also includes the Intercession Cathedral (St. Basil’s Cathedral) and the Romanov Chambers in Zaryadye. In the early 2000s, the Historical Museum was transferred to the neighboring buildings of the former Moscow City Duma, the Mint and Nikolsky trading rows in order to free the ensemble of the Novodevichy Convent and the Krutitsky Patriarchal courtyard from the museum’s collecti
