EXPEDITION GIANT SCOTTISH SKATE - LIAM DALE (BBC’s The Big Catch)

Another of the “big 6“ fishing titles that made up the series of “The Big Catch“. HERE we’re out of Oban on the hunt for giant Scottish skate. truly monster fishes of the North. Deep deep waters off the Scottish Western Isles.. with a few pals, some onboard with me.. and Willy anchored a few hundred yards off to give me “distant hauling“ shots. He loves his Skate fishing! As the days drew on and I was blanking.. I had to pull a director stunt.. and make ALL rods available to me at the close of the last day. SImply put.. NO skate for me = a major problem for the series with the Beeb. So, with the setting sun, a ratchet ran and I dived on the rod.. the team clearing the rest of the lines. And in due course, I landed a very large and healthy skate in excess of 100lbs. A MASSIVE sigh of relief frankly as there was NO going back to Pebble Mill without one in the can.
