She was the archetypal “girl next door“! Doris Day scored over a dozen UK chart hits between 1952 (when UK charts were first published) and 1964, including two #1 hits. But this was Doris’ US debut single, a #1 hit for her in 1945. The song had actually been written a couple of years earlier, but she and the band were unable to record it because of a musicians’ strike.
