ep52 - Sailing Bermuda to Antigua - Hallberg-Rassy 54 Cloudy Bay - Dec 2018

After 10 days in Bermuda, the weather window appeared and s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) departs on the sailing adventure to Antigua. During this sailing trip we completed 948 nm, and it took us 5 days 3 hours, averaging As weather went, we had the tail end of a big low pressure system on the first day, with strong but decreasing winds and big seas. On the second day we crossed the high-pressure transition zone to the trade winds, motoring for 16 hours. The wind came back in on our port quarter, gentle at first, but then increased and sprung east, ending up forward of the beam. And this is how we spent the last 3 days, on a port tack fetch (on apparent wind) and into the increasing easterly swell. We pushed Cloudy Bay fairly hard through the waves giving us a rather hard but thrilling ride. The sea calmed down in the lee of Barbuda at dawn on the last day, then arrived into the turquoise water of Jolly Harbour, Antigua at noon.
