Revit and IFC with ChatGPT | Automated ETL with CAD (BIM) Data

🔮 So how will ChatGPT and reverse engineering tools for CAD (BIM) formats kill BIM and all the newfangled concepts like openBIM and closedBIM? 📊 Answer: by using ETL (ELT) methods that have been used in all other industries for a long time and successfully (video below the post). To develop projects in CAD programs, the most important thing is to understand the business processes for which they are created. An effective project requires clearly defined data requirements including: ◾️ Data Collection (Extract) ◾️ Creating and validating requirements (Transform) ◾️ Loading into required systems or formats (Load). This process is closely related to ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) procedures. In all other industries (except construction) ETL processes play a key role in data processing and analysis, which is crucial for optimizing business processes and making informed decisions. It is only in the construction industry, due to the closed nature of #CAD program databases, that engineers working in the construction industry are offered a marketing invention by CAD vendors to sell access to CAD program databases. CAD data (attribute and geometric components of project objects) is one of the keys to many business cases. Not so long ago, this information (attribute and geometric information of objects) from CAD databases was classified and called by the special acronym #BIM. BIM methods from CAD vendors have to reinvent the process of “data assembly, visualization, analysis and validation“ using specialized BIM methods and BIM tools. Now, thanks to reverse engineering tools, data from CAD programs is simply data that is no different from data and formats in other industries. Thanks to open data (with full attribute and geometric information of entities) from CAD databases, we can now view any process, at the open data level, through the lens of ETL (ELT) methods. ⚙️ The ETL process - which occurs in each of the thousands of individual business cases of any company - is presented in the video. ⚡ DataDrivenConstruction: 📥 DDC Excel Plugin Add-in: 🔔 Subscribe and join us for more insights on working with data in the construction industry LinkedIn: Twitter: 👋🏼 Repost for a colleague who is tired of BIM and ready to learn about open data from CAD programs and ETL processes.
