Baldurs Gate 3: How to Kill Commander Zhalk and the Cambions on Tactician

The Baldurs gate 3 (BG3) Tutorial Boss fight is not really meant to be won, but why let that stop us. Commander Zhalk and his Cambions are not for the faint of heart, and the Mindflayer is a dual edged sword. It was a rough fight, but very doable. The tactics here is from the focus of a bard, but a lot of it goes for every group. You get some nice loot, and a fun challenge. In this video I show you how I managed to take down Commander Zhalk and his Cambions with time to spare. Getting all their loot and experience in the process. I walk you through my prep and the important steps of the plan. And then I let the footage roll with tactical commentary. I finish by going over what could be changed in the plan, to make it easier with a small bit of savescumming, or how to remove some of the cheese (if you like me is not too great a cheese fan) I tried to dial down the amount of cheese used in my kill (still used a lot), steering fully away from anything that I would consider bugged. After completing the fight it seems very possible to do it without using the restoration chamber, which would probably be my next goal. With the right build (probably not bard) and a good amount of luck, it might be possible without the cannisters too. Could be fun to try. Eventually.... Should probably go experience the actual game first. If you’ve got any questions, or want to run your own plans by me, I am very happy to help. 00:00 – Introduction 00:44 – Character Setup and prep 02:23 – The plan and the fight starts 06:51 – Got the Everburn blade 12:06 – Setting up the Cannister trap 14:25 – Commander dies. Give Bardic inspiration to everyone and then reset the spellslot/cooldown with restoration chamber. You can predip in candle at entrance. ½: Remember your candle for dipping for added damage 1: Faerie fire for advantage on Commander 2: Lazerate/Spiked bulb thingie for Bleed debuf (Disadvantage on con saves for nr 3 and 4) 3: Pummel strike/Concussive blow for Dazed effect (disadvantage on wisdom saves for nr 5) 4: Piercing shot/strike for extra damage (shadowheart, Shandren, Laezel) 5: Command to make him drop weapon (80% chance, 2 spell slots) - This one HAS to work 6: Use Mage hands to gather Cannisters. Remember to pick them up with a character 7: Equip weapon on Laezel 8: Wail on Commander to get him low but not too low 9: Use team to kill off critters 10: Set up cannister trap for Cambions, preferably without getting blown up 11: Keep commander and Mindflayer alive (mindflayer might need some healing from magehands throwing potions) 12: Get the hell away from mindflayer and still living commander so they engage him. 13: resummon Magehands 14: Faerie fire on the Cambions (hope you land it on at least one!!) 15: Set up Speed Potions breaking for 3-4 characters getting the buff. 16: Go to town on the Cambions (focus faerie fired one if only one), You will likely have characters go down. Get them back up with Magehands throwing potions 17: Try to get height advantage on the stairs for 10% hit chance 18: Shadowhearts Radiant Cantrip has 40% chance of hitting. That is decent on a cambion without faerie fire. 19: Throw axes and random stuff at cambions with magehands when not healing. Everything counts. 20: Caustic Bulbs surface is combustable. Can deal a little extra. damage from your fire arrows. 21: If you still have the bleed bulb and some piercing shots, remember the combo from earlier. oh yeah.... and the secret 22nd and most important step: Don’t be too unlucky :-P
