This video is about how Geography Shaped United States History. Social Media ------------------------ Map Shop - Twitter - Instagram - Patreon - Email Newsletter - Corrections ------------------ - The US is 2nd in energy consumption. China surpassed the US in 2010. The US is 1st in oil consumption. - 30 named storms did not hit the US. A record 30 named storms took place in the Atlantic, only 11 hit the contiguous USA. Clarifications -------------------- - I said the War of 1812 was a US victory when it is a bit more complicated. The US failed in many of their pre-war objects including failing to fully rid the British off the North American continent. To do this the US made multiple attempts to invade Canada, but failed. Because of this Canada claims victory in the war. However, the US did repel the British from US territory with geography playing a large role. The British also abandoned the natives who they supported before the war of 1812 with arms and supplies and were thought to be encouraging attacks on the US. This allowed the US to expand into the Midwest without British interference after the war. - I said tornadoes occur in the United States because of flat territory. It does contribute but the flat territory does not cause tornadoes. Tornadoes can occur almost anywhere that storms occur. There are a large number of Tornadoes that occur in tornado ally because of the dry cold air moving south from Canada that meets warm moist air traveling north from the Gulf of Mexico. The flat territory in the Great Plains enables this because there are no mountain ranges blocking the warm humid air from the gulf. - Music Credit Song: Is that You or Are You You?
