Schumann - Adagio and Allegro in A flat major, More information: The Riga Jurmala Academy has been organised in collaboration with the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. *** Cellist Emma Bandeniece took her first steps as a musician at the age of four. After graduating from the Cesvaine Music School and the Emīls Dārziņš Music Secondary School, she began studying at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) under Diana Ozoliņa and has taken part in masterclasses led by world-class cellists, including Sol Gabetta, Colin Carr and Troels Svane. She has several times performed as a soloist with orchestras. During her studies, Bandeniece also played in a variety of ensembles and orchestras, among them the Sinfonietta Rīga chamber orchestra, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) and Dream Team (the LNSO cello group ensemble). From 2016 to 2019, she played in Gidon Kremer’s Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra. In September 2019, Bandeniece began master’s studies at London’s Royal College of Music under Prof. Melissa Phelps and was a recipient of the prestigious ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) scholarship. She is now back in Latvia, where she is in the master’s programme at JVLMA and studying under Diana Ozoliņa. ***
