Have You Ever Seen A Spiky Spider Glowing Under UV Light?

Parallel-spined Spiny Orbweaver Spider (Gasteracantha diardi, Araneidae) from the rainforest of Sabah, Borneo, East Malaysia. This Orb-Weaver Spider (also called jewel spider or crab spider) is filmed under natural light and ultraviolet (UV) light showing changes in colorations. Its brightly colored body patterns may be useful to lure prey such as insects. The spins sticking out from its abdomen make it unedible to predators trying to swallow it such as birds. Spiders excrete thick liquid droppings made of a combination of digested insects and other waste. In fact, spiders have a liquid diet. Interestingly, spiders vomit into their insect food and suck it back up with added protein. They first paralyse the insect with their venom glands and inject digestive enzymes into their prey to dissolved and liquify it. Spiders then proceed to consume their food using a very tiny tubular mouth. Note that orb-weaver spiders are harmless to humans despite their intimidating appearances.
