Who is Brian Friedman?
Brian Friedman can be described as a pioneer and entrepreneur having opened his first dance studio at the age of 16. He got his first big break as a dancer when he starred in the 1992 film “Newsies”. Soon thereafter, he became one of the breakout stars on the hit Disney show Kids Incorporated, alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt and the late Brittany Murphy. As one of the most sought-after dancers in the business, his film credits include Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, You Got Served, She’s All That, Austin Powers Gold Member and Uptown Girls. Brian has also performed with top music artists such as Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, Prince, Paula Abdul and more.
Brian soon became one of the most in-demand choreographers in the business and went on to choreograph such shows as Dancing with The Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, Will & Grace, The Tonight Show, Late Night, Jimmy Kimmel, The Ellen Show, Oprah, MTV VMA’s, VH1 Divas Live, American Music Awards and The Billboard Music Awards. The list of artists he has Creative Directed & Choreographed for include Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Ciara, Mariah Carey, Usher, P!nK, Nicole Scherzinger, Ne-Yo, Christina Aguilera, One Direction, Cher, Normani and Sam Smith. He was chosen by Simon Cowell to work on several of his most popular and successful projects, including judging, choreographing, creative directing, and producing The X Factor (US and UK), America’s Got Talent, and Britain’s Got Talent.
During the first 15 years of his career, Brian Friedman received multiple nominations for the MTV VMA’s, The MVPA’s, and The American Choreography Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography. He has received two Universal Dance Awards for Best Choreography in Digital Content for Portugal the Man, Feel It Still, a World of Dance Award in 2016 for Male Choreographer of the Year, an Industry Voice Awards in 2011 for Best Choreography in a Music Video for Britney Spears, Till the World Ends, the London Choreographers Carnival Achievement Award in 2006, and Convention of the Year for The Main Event which Brian created and produced.
In addition to spending his time as a Producer, Director, Creative Director, and Choreographer, Brian enjoys giving back to the community. He has toured the world teaching and mentoring thousands of dancers by working on countless events including The Pulse on Tour, for which he was Co-Creator and Creative Director, The Main Event which he is the Creator and Director, and Radix Dance Convention on which he currently teaches. Brian also created an interactive instructional dance DVD called Freestyle, teaching audiences around the world original choreography from his most renowned projects. To reach students who cannot travel, he created an online mentorship program called The Talent Collective. This program helped guide the lives of future artists and entertainers, creating and developing original projects, helping to catapult careers in the entertainment industry.
Brian has never stopped learning, growing and venturing into new fields. He took on the fashion industry as a designer when he partnered with the international renowned company, Capezio, to create his own Shoe Line called B-Free. That same love for fashion led him to eventually create a full apparel and shoe line called Brian Says B Free as well as a costume collection titled Brian Friedman Performance, and a dance wear line called Brian Friedman Dance Wear, both for Discount Dance Supply. Brian’s entrepreneurial spirit remains as vibrant as ever as he continues to work and develop new ideas in the field of dance.
