Simple Jelly Roll Race style quilt using 2 1/2 inch STRIPS! 4th in a series to use leftover strips!

Fourth project in a series using 2 1/2 inch strips to make scrappy quilts! These videos will be a great tutorials to make beautiful and scrappy quilts. My goal is to use up strips that have accumulated in my lifetime of quilting! Stay to the end to see an alternate color way in a smaller size with a slightly different piecing technique. There is also an update on the scrap bucket situation and how that is looking! This quilt used about 7 yards of fabric. YAY! WooHoo! Commence Happy Dance! This project is our version of the Jelly Roll Race Quilt using scrap strips instead of a jelly roll. You start with one long strip. You just keep folding it in half end to end and sewing until it’s time to fold it end to end again. The size will vary depending on how many strips you start with and how many times you fold it end to end. My quilt was made with all my leftover strips in flannels and homespuns that were in a darker color family. I had the strips show horizontally on the quilt top but you could also have them be vertical if desired and the sizing works better that way. This is definitely a fun pattern to play around with and it’s a great quilt to make when you don’t want to do a lot of thinking about a pattern or lining things up. Play with it! This type of quilt would make a great Quilts of Valor project. Use your red, white and blue leftover strips and really mix them up! Check out the requirements and information on Quilts of Valor at this website: Link to Quilts of Valor Foundation: I’ve challenged myself to do a new project each month using only 2 1/2 inch strips from my scrap buckets. I have always saved leftover strips from projects and cut up small leftover fabric from yardage into 2 1/2 inch strips and put them in a bucket for some “future“ project . The future is now! It is time to tame the scrap bucket and use up these strips. I’ll always have a scrap bucket of strips because I’m constantly adding to it but I want to get it down to just ONE bucket instead of that seven after the “GREAT SORTING“! This series will last until I’m down to one bucket. Let’s be honest, it will take at least 2 years to use up enough strips to make a difference! So join me on this project adventure to use up fabric scraps! Consider joining our Facebook group called “The Quilted Forest Friends“.
