And what better way to honor #NationalWildlifeDay than to celebrate one of our longer residents, Tabu! This handsome boy is an Oncilla, one of the most endangered cats in Costa Rica. Oncillas are also the smallest of all the wild cats. Tabu was found as a young Oncilla, rummaging through trashcans in Cartago, Costa Rica. At this point (back in 2013), because of his small size and unusual pattern, he looked a lot like a domestic house kitten! We believe he was being kept as someone’s pet and then escaped.
Tabu showed up regularly in residents’ back yards in Cartago, and through some teamwork, eventually came to Toucan Rescue Ranch for help.
