1981 Canadian Grand Prix highlights

Respective DNFs in Monza for Nelson Piquet and Jacques Laffite meant that Carlos Reutemann arrived in Canada with a bit of breathing room atop the standings, but with two races left in North America, anything could happen. Alain Prost and Alan Jones, first and second in Monza, were both closing in on late season charges, while elsewhere, Gilles Villeneuve would surely be desperate to please the partisan Canadian crowds with a second home win at the Ile-Notre-Dame circuit. Championship standings after 13 rounds: 1. Reutemann (49) 2. Piquet (46) 3. Prost (37) 4. Jones (37) 5. Laffite (34)
