Hungary’s Orban says no more taxpayers’ money to support Ukraine while EU summit calls for more aid

Hungarian Prime Minister Orban made the remarks in Brussels on the sidelines of an EU summit. Orban also said he saw no reason for Hungary to send its taxpayers’ money to support Ukraine. The EU is due to decide in December on a revision of its 2021-27 budget worth 1.1 trillion euros ($1.2 trln). The bloc’s executive proposed that member states chip in more to the shared coffers to provide 50 billion euros to Ukraine and spend another 15 billion euros on migration. Another proposal would allocate 20 billion euros in military aid for Ukraine. Orban said on Thursday he wanted the proposal for the 50 billion to be better justified before he could agree to it. EU officials expect Hungary’s Orban will change his view on more money for Ukraine if the European Commission unblocks part of the cash Hungary should get from the EU’s recovery fund. The money is now frozen because of Hungary’s rule-of-law problems. __________________ ShanghaiEye focuses on producing top-quality contents. Nobody knows SHANGHAI better than us.
