Radioactivity: the process by which the nucleus changes on its own, usually by giving off alpha or beta particles and sometimes gamma rays as well.
Radioassay: a test that looks for ionizing radiation to find out how much radioactive material there is.
Radiogenic: Ionizing radiation can have an effect on your health.
Radiography: 1) In medicine, the use of x-rays and gamma rays to make pictures of body parts. 2) In the business world, using radioactive sources to take pictures of things inside, like the turbine blades in jet engines.
Radioisotope (radioactive isotope): Isotopes of an element with a nucleus that is not stable. Isotopes that are radioactive are often used in science, business, and medicine.
Radiological dispersal device (RDD): A device that spreads radioactive material using conventional explosives or other mechanical means, like a spray.
Radionuclide: a form of a nuclide that is unstable and, because of that, radioactive.
