Meanstreak-Roadkill

Bio By She Rox All Female Bands:New York based Meanstreak began in 1985, and all though the band originally played a commercial friendly pop metal they quickly changed after a handful of drummers and became the first all-female thrash/speed metal band of the early eighties only rivaled by Sweden“s all female speed metal band Ice Age. Meanstreak secured a drummer prior to their one and only full-length album “Roadkill“ in 1988, drummer Diane Keyser would leave soon after the release and was replaced by Yael Devon who would remain with the band until it’s end in 1994. Touring with heavy weights like Anthrax and Motorhead opened the band up to hardcore speed metal fans and Meanstreak quickly gained the respect they deserved, however lineup changes would plaque the band leaving guitarist Marlene Apuzzo to take over on bass. The band released several demos before finally calling it a day. Though some may consider the band a footnote in music history, to deny the boundaries they broke for women in metal is quite immeasurable. Guitarist Rena Sands would later resurface in the current day all female Judas Priest cover band Judas Priestess.
