Hydraulic jump computer-generated simulation

This computer-generated simulation shows the formation of a hydraulic jump within the cloud ice field of a supercell thunderstorm. A horizontal jet exceeding 200 mph precedes the formation of the jump that in turn drives the formation of an above anvil cirrus plume. Credit: Leigh Orf, CIMSS
