This final Deviants album featured the debut of Paul Rudolph on guitar. Here he’s a bit tentative as is the band and it makes for a compelling mix. Frontman Mick Farren didn’t really do much on this album which is probably why he became unhappy and the band tossed him during a disastrous American tour and soon thereafter morphed into The Pink Fairies of legendary renown. The jokes mostly fall flat and the hard rock is mostly muted and not particularly scintillating but the song structures can amuse and Metalmorphosis at the end is a 9 minute epic where Rudolph really lets loose with the kind of vibe he’d soon be spewing all over the Pink Fairies records as well as Twink’s solo Lp. Essential stuff for reprobates and mugwumps like me“ Release View view [combined information for all issues] The Deviants [p] 1969 Vinyl LPTransatlantic / TRA 204 United Kingdom #3 33 rpm, Gatefold 1969 Vinyl LPSire / SES 97016 United States The Deviants #3 33 rpm, Gatefold, Promo 1969 Vinyl LPSire / SES 97016 United States The Deviants 33 rpm 1978 Vinyl LPLogo / MOGO 4001 United Kingdom The Deviants 33 rpm 1979 Vinyl LPLogo / Spain The Deviants 1988 Vinyl LPDrop Out / TRANDO 8 United Kingdom #3 1997 CDCaptain Trip / CTCD-061 Japan # 3 180 gram, Gatefold 1998 Vinyl LPGet Back / GET 529 Italy The Deviants 2004 CDCaptain Trip / CTCD-496 Japan Deviants 3 Remastered 2009 CDEsoteric / ECLEC 2120
