What makes this story even more remarkable is the revelation that the “intruder“ was not a rat at all. In fact, it was a European water vole, a species that is critically endangered and protected in the UK. Perhaps this wise cat sensed the importance of preserving this rare and protected rodent, choosing love over its hunting instincts.
