This Ave Maria was originally published in 1853 as “Méditation sur le Premier Prélude de Piano de J.S. Bach“. It consists of a melody by the French Romantic composer Charles Gounod that he superimposed over Bach’s Prelude No. 1 in C major (from Book I of his The Well-Tempered Clavier).
It’s mainly performed by voice and piano but Gounod himself wrote a version for Violin and Piano. Now, with this arrangement, it can be played in Violin Duo too:
