Students’ Rag (1926)

Southampton, Hampshire. Title: “Southampton Students’ Rag“. M/S of an old banger with students in silly costumes sitting inside and on top of it, they clown about; one of them hits it with a hammer, others pretend to push it. M/S of the car in the middle of a high street, a male student in a kilt cranking the starting handle. M/S of the car being pushed down the street, a crowd of students run behind it. M/S of another car coming down a crowd lined street, students dangle out of the windows waving batons. All of a sudden, more students rush out of the crowd and ’fight’ the students in the car! Various M/Ss of the ’fight’ - presumably it’s horse play but it looks pretty convincing. M/S of the car driving through the crowd, the students still wave from the windows. L/S of a boat coming into harbour, a ship is anchored in the distance and the wings of a water plane are visible in the foreground.
