Introducing Modes of the major scale | Maths and Music | N J Wildberger

Let’s introduce the classical modes of the major scale: Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian. But we want to do this in two different ways! In our next video, we will be wanting to generalize this construction considerably, and also to free it from this current “piano centric“ point of view. But this is at least a good start. Careful viewers / listeners will note that I messed up some of my “rock and roll examples“ for some of these modes. I admit to not having a lot of practice in these alternate musical universes -- but that’s perhaps what makes them interesting. Can you find out where my mistakes were? *********************** Here are all the Insights into Mathematics Playlists: Elementary Mathematics (K-6) Explained: ? list=PL8403C2F0C89B1333 Year 9 Maths: Ancient Mathematics:
