Boots And Shoes (1940-1949)

British Instructional Films Ltd presents a Classroom Film. Shot of a factory making shoes. Supervisor speaks to worker who is laying out pieces of leather on a bench. Man sharpens cutting tool and cuts around a pattern by hand. Foam is cut by means of metal cutter (a bit like a pastry cutter) and a heavy weight. A woman sews parts together on a Singer sewing machine. C/U of different women sewing different parts of the shoe. Man lays large sheet of fabric in machine which presses down on metal cutter to cut out inner soles. Soles are scored in a machine. Machine staples shoe to base. Soles stuck on then sewn by machine. Heels applied in a vice. Excess trimmed. Colour applied to sole and heel. Soles worked on a machine. Brush used to finish off soles. Glue applied to inner soles then they are stuck inside shoes. Polishing machines used. Woman sprays shoes with polish. Shoes are packed into boxes. Boxes are carried from warehouse. Shots of a woman in a shoe shop trying on shoes.
