Australia’s consumer watchdog targeting big supermarket duopoly for false price-drop claims
The ACCC has filed lawsuits against Coles and Woolworths, the country’s two largest supermarket chains, alleging they falsely advertised permanent price drops on hundreds of items.
The watchdog claims the companies temporarily increased prices before lowering them to a level either equal to or higher than the original price, misleading consumers.
Both Coles and Woolworths have issued statements defending their actions and vowing to review the accusations.
