Visit Visit our website This 1956 American Automobile Association (AAA) promotional film “Next Summer ... A Daydream on Wheels“ encourages consumers to utilize the company’s travel agency services. The film shows footage of popular tourist hot spots in France. The film opens with images of a secretary typing away at her typewriter (:19) which displays the title and film credits. The film was presented by the American Automobile Association Advertisement for AAA (:34). The secretary mulls over her plans for a summer vacation in France (:50). A Triple-A representative discusses travel arrangements with customers (:58). A Pan American plane delivers passengers to the Paris Airport (1:43). Attendants await passengers’ arrivals at the airport to further assist with their travel arrangements (2:05). The tourists are pictured driving down the roads of France with ease as traffic here moves similarly to that in the US (2:19). Footage follows as the vehicle leaves the city and enters the French countryside (2:32). They make a pit stop at a Chateau near Avallon (2:44). They move through the French wine region known as Burgundy (3:01). Shops and local hotels line the main drag (3:41). The area of Provence is viewed where Van Gogh had spent two and a half years working on some of his masterpieces (3:51). The Triumphal arch of Orange is captured (3:57) opened in 20 AD. The film moves to Monte Carlo in the Principality of Monaco (4:04). High palms and local hotels are viewed (4:05). The Prince’s Palace of Monaco once housed the famed Grace Kelly (4:33). Tourists enjoy a breezy boat ride in the Mediterranean (5:10). Luxury homes line the thoroughfare paralleling the coastline (5:20). A woman toes the waves at the beach (5:34). Stacks of colorful hats sit at a local vendor in the shopping district (6:02). A locally famous parrot; ‘Jo-Jo’ entertains guests (6:13). The fashion and clothing on French women is highlighted (6:31). Fishermen work with a drag net at the harbor (6:58). Guest enjoy a luncheon at the San Rafael (7:04). Tourists enjoy a boat ride in the south of France as they make their way towards Gassin (7:32). The Mairie de Gassin is captured (8:29). A female tourist heads into town for a haircut (9:11). She attends the salon of the famed Vidal Sassoon (9:13); a British hairdresser with salons all over the world. Outdoor hairdryers complete the womens’ looks (9:33). The event for the evening is a celebration at Gassin (9:48). Frenchmen play a game of boules (10:06) as tobacco cigarettes hang from lips. Locals dance outside (10:42) and well into the evening (10:47) as smoke moves across the ground. At sunrise, the town is again quiet (11:24) as the trip nears it’s conclusion. The vacationers hop into their car for a trip back to their airport (11:35). The film closes with images of the Mediterranean (12:10). This was a BPL Production (12:29).
