Wanamaker Organ: John Binsfeld plays Percy Fletcher’s Fountain Reverie

This hi-fi cassette recording from about made during shopping hours at Philadelphia’s John Wanamaker Department Store. In an intense middle section worthy of Virgil Fox, the recording reflects the thrills a well-provisioned crescendo pedal is capable of providing when at the command of a skilled player practiced at using the many expression pedals. Listeners can judge for themselves the quality of sound that came from the unrestored but well cared for Wanamaker Organ in the ’70s as John Binsfeld plays one of his signature pieces. Spectacular scenes from a recent nighttime fountain performance at Longwood Gardens are used as a backdrop.
