Mi Gente Carnatic Mix: A Classical Dance Cover

This is fusion dance that takes imaginative spins beyond genres! The dance depicts a joyous face-off between Nataraja, the cosmic dancer, and Natwar, the dancing Lord Krishna. Choreographed as a jugalbandi of Bharatanatyam and Kathak, the dancers rejoice in the vigorous movements of Lord Nataraja and the charming manoeuvres of Lord Krishna as Natwar. Sunil Sunkara and Sachhidanand Narayankar perform this jugalbandi to IndianRaga’s Carnatic version of Mi Gente, the Spanish song that topped the global charts in 2017. For this jugalbandi the song Mi Gente, in its Indian version by IndianRaga, is topped up with energetic Bols and Padhant to resonate with the sounds of the Mridang and Damaru, and guide the steps of the two dancers.  The recital culminates in the dancers performing “Chakkars”, the Kathak spins.  Music by Vinod Krishnan, Mahesh Raghvan and Akash Gururaja.
