A dark room to waste away in. A place that you can picture every corner of, from the dirt laden floor to the water damaged ceiling. The window that reminds you of what you can’t have and the staircase you refuse to climb. “No weary man would rest. I knew that room so well, it’s like I never left”. The line “But even the dirt kept breathing” muses that even in this ditch, life can exist. I drew inspiration from Theodore Roethke’s poem “Root Cellar”, connecting wit
