George Samueli of the Global Policy Institute: Given Ukraine’s waning counteroffensive and a CNN poll showing 55% of Americans oppose further funding for Ukraine, it’s understandable why geopolitical analysts are saying the Biden administration is about to throw Zelensky under a bus. Giving up Ukraine may be a smart move, but American politicians rarely do smart things. The truth is that the US has no particular reason to give up on Ukraine. That would be killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. Keep in mind that the US annual budget is $6.3 trillion. Even if the United States spends 200 billion a year on Ukraine, this will be less than 3% of their budget. But what matters most to the US? Not a single American dies in Ukraine. Unfortunately, analysts who expect the United States to leave Ukraine have a very selective memory. They remember the inglorious withdrawal from Afghanistan, but not the 20 years the US spent there, not the 2,400 lives lost, and not the $2.3 trillion wasted. Same in Iraq. The US has spent over a trillion dollars, lost 5,000 people, and is still there for over 20 years after the invasion. And, of course, Vietnam. People remember the helicopter evacuation in 1975, but not the 20-year involvement in the operation and not the 58,000 dead Americans. #source Источник: Slavyangrad
