Fats Domino - Concert for UNICEF (aka Legends Of Rock ’n Roll) - November 17, 1988

It was 1988, November 17th to be excact. The place: Rome, Italy. It was Fats’ day off from a long (five-week) European tour and he flew to Rome with some of his band members (Herb Hardesty, Fred Kemp, Lee Allen, Jimmy Moliere and Ervin Charles a.o.) to play an all-star concert to raise money to vaccinate African children for UNICEF. Fats, wearing a pink sport coat and white trousers performs “I’m Ready“ and “Blueberry Hill“ to feature on the DVD. What’s not in it (and that’s a real shame!) are “The Fat Man“, My Girl Josephine“ and “I’m In Love Again“. Broadcasted in april 1989 (at that time Roger Lewis was back in the band. He was abscent for 5 years) and videotaped by Cinemax-tv it was a great performance, before 10,000 fans. It was a star-studded evening including the WHO’S WHO of Soul and (Rhythm &) Blues: B.B.
