Inhale and exhale are equal length with brief pauses in between Breathe in 5 seconds, pause 1 second, breathe out 5 seconds, pause 1 second. You take 5 breaths per minute when doing this exercise. Deep breathing exercises can reduce stress because they activate the body’s natural relaxation response. When you engage in deep breathing, you stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system—the system responsible for rest and digest activities. It’s a signal to our body that it’s time to switch from ‘fight or flight’ to ‘rest and relax.’ This signal is sent through the vagus nerve to our brain, which then tells our heart to slow down and our blood vessels to relax, making us feel more at ease. #breathingexercises #breathingmeditation
