[ITA/ENG] Nel 1956 per rimpiazzare lo stadio di Torino per le olimpiadi del ’60 si scelse il progetto dell’ingegner Nervi. I lavori iniziarono nel luglio del ’57 e si conclusero a fine 58. Costo: 900 milioni di lire. Inizialmente capace di più di 40 000 spettatori, poi ridotti a meno della metà per adeguamento alle norme di sicurezza. L’inaugurazione venne fatta al 19 marzo 1959, nel ’60 ospitò un girone più le fasi finali del torneo Olimpico di calcio ma i problemi iniziarono subito dopo: Tutti gli eventi vennero spostati allo stadio Olimpico. In questo stadio rimase inizialmente il rugby, poi negli anni 80 tornò il calcio con la Lazio in Coppa Italia e la Lodigiani. Fine anni ’80 inizio ’90 fecero anche diversi concerti con ospiti del calibro di Duran Duran, Prince, David Bowie, Michael Jackson e i Rolling Stones. In quegli anni con l’Olimpico chiuso per ristrutturazione per i mondiali, venne utilizzato sia della Lazio che dalla Roma. Nel 2000 tornò nuovamente l’Italrugby con il 6 Nazioni, ma non durò molto perché dal 2012 si spostarono nuovamente allo stadio Olimpico.
