Violent protests sparked in Kazakhstan as car fuel prices double

The largest nationwide protests in Kazakhstan since the collapse of the Soviet Union 30 years ago have forced the Kazakh government to resign. In unprecedented scenes, protesters in cities across this Central Asian state defied a ban on unsanctioned demonstrations and scuffled with police.
