Yale Russian Chorus: Glasom moyim (With My Voice), by Alexandr A. Arkhangelsky (1846-1924), transcribed by Denis Mickiewicz. The text consists of the first two verses of Psalm 142: “With my voice I cried unto the Lord; with my voice I will make my supplication to the Lord.“ Not part of the regular liturgy, this piece is often sung during the Offertory, especially during the pensive weeks of Lent. This setting was published in 1896. In 1880 Arkhangelsky had formed his own choir (which survived the founder, continuing until 1935). Initially a church choir, it quickly became Russia’s pre-eminent concert choir, performing both sacred and secular repertoire. In 1902 it became one of the first choral ensembles to be recorded.
