The Five Americans performing “Western Union“, released originally in 1967. It reached #3 on the Canada Top Singles, #5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and #7 on the US Billboard Cash Box. The members of the band met in 1962 during their studies at the Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant. Here they formed under the direction of lead singer and guitarist Mike Rabon and they performed locally on The Mutineers. In the summer of 1964 they decided to go to Dallas where John Abnak Abdnor of the local record label signed them. By the British invasion on the US market with strange sounding names like The Beatles (the beetles), the band members decided to change the name in 1965 in simply Five Americans. After a number of flops in 1965, the band with the private number “I See the Light“ reached the 26th place of the Billboard as a youth player.
