New York MTA subway needs safety platform doors

According to MTA statistics, 54 people died and 139 people were injured as a result of being hit by trains in 2012. There have been talks about installing safety doors on the subway platforms in New York City since 2007, however, the MTA has had a high turnover rate and has changed four chairman since then. Despite the numerous benefits of having safety doors installed, the subway system in New York is old, so to have additional doors in place would lead to extra costs. Also, as its subway trains vary in make and size, the location of where the car doors open varies. To overcome this obstacle, Platform Dynamic Doors has found a solution. Platform dynamic doors can detect where the train stops and adjust where the platform edge doors open accordingly. In light of recent subway accidents, Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer has urged the MTA to install safety doors. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health.
