Queen - Live in Bristol (29th November 1973)

Despite the tour still continuing until early December with a grand finale at the Hammersmith Odeon, this is the last circulating recording of the tour as of December 2022. But instead of cooling things down as the end of the tour is approaching and most audiences have been won over, the band doesn’t even think of that and instead delivers another good show albeit plagued with some issues: Freddie’s voice seems to be tired as he struggles with some notes he would usually nail without thinking twice even to the point where he cracks mutltiple times on random spots! Additionally, Brian struggles to keep his guitar under his wings and especially the finale of ’Big Spender’ and ’Bama Lama Bama Loo’ is uncharacteristically weak for the era. ’Hangman’ would soon be dropped and only appear sporadically in 1975 and 1976. As they have done already on this tour, Queen once again experiment with their rock and roll medley and add the soon to be staple of 70s live Queen, ’Big Spender’ in between ’Jailhouse Rock’ and ’Bama Lama Bama Loo’. Interestingly enough, although Freddie again incorporates ’Shake, Rattle and Roll’ and ’Stupid Cupid’ into ’Jailhouse Rock’, the usual third classic ’Be-Bop-a-Lula’ is skipped tonight, just as it had been in Glasgow and Manchester.
