US Bridge Unsafe: Closed US Bridges Highlight Neglect As Repairs Await Funding

According to the federal government, about 42,400 bridges are in poor condition nationwide. An associated press analysis found nearly 16,000 were also in poor shape a decade ago. One of those bridges rated poor was a span on interstate 195 in Rhode Island. It was suddenly shut down in December of last year. This month, the governor announced the bridge will be demolished and replaced – a process that will take at least two years to complete. The news was a gut punch to impacted businesses. President Biden’s infrastructure bill earmarked $40 billion to fix bridges – the largest cash infusion in decades. But trade groups estimate that the actual cost will be $319 billion. And as many bridges rated poor are repaired, others have fallen from good to fair in their conditions. #usnews #baltimorebridgecollapse #usbridgecollapse Subscribe to India Today for NEW VIDEOS EVERY DAY and make sure to enable Push Notifications so you’ll never miss a new video.
