Alleluia (SATB - unaccompanied) by Adam Paltrowitz

The story of Alleluia: I wrote “Alleluia“ for the 2023-2024 Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School Mixed Choir. Alleluia seems like such a finite word and yet I view it as a feeling of comfort through a world of discomfort. It is never stagnant and covers an endless range of emotion. Most of this beautiful composition avoids root position chords and instead explores the emotional complexities of even the most simple harmonies. When the song finally ends in root position, it eliminates the 3rd of the chord, leaving a definitive, yet unsettling ending. I hope this setting of Alleluia brings beauty and light through darkness.
