How Microsoft REDEFINES PC & Xbox Gaming | Sampler Feedback & DirectStorage For PC & Xbox Series X Microsoft’s Game Stack has revealed a ton of very interesting things about both the Xbox Series X|S consoles and what Microsoft plans to do with PC gaming too. The Xbox Series X uses Microsoft’s Xbox Velocity Architecture, which is essentially a catch-all term for a plethora of tech including the decompression solution inside the Xbox Series APU and the new DirectStorage API and of course other important tech for the xbox includes the Sampler Feedback Streaming. SFS is currently supported on PC, and allows PRT (Partially resident textures) to be used in highly intelligent ways, with the games developer and game engine better able to understand which MIP level or parts of textures are being sampled by the GPU. Not only this, but SFS allows huge savings in memory thanks to only the most needed texture data being held resident in the memory of the system.
