16 | Voyage across the Central Pacific on a Wooden Boat

After waiting for a weather window, we set sail from French Polynesia for an 1800 nautical mile passage to Fiji. This stretch of ocean is notoriously squally and unpredictable. We experienced variable winds and some significant swell rolling in from systems in the southern ocean. After a successful voyage, we made landfall in the beautiful country of Fiji. Our boat Julia is an Atkin designed Ingrid ketch. She is a traditional wooden boat, built of fir and cedar on an oak frame in 1960.
