Disaster Funeral (1915)

Disasters. World War One. Scenes from the aftermath of the sinking of the Cunard Ocean Liner Lusitania by a German submarine; in may 1915. The ship was off the coast of Ireland; headed for Liverpool. 1000 Passengers; including 128 neutral Americans; were killed. Not certain of locations of this film. Opens w/ survivors; etc. Walking in street: naval officer & young man w/ cane walk arm in arm. Two Seamen; photographers / journalists carrying cameras. C/U woman in fur coat talks w/young man; army men in bg. Next; crowd mostly working-class men walking up street toward cam; 3 men w. linked arms; 1 has blanket. Man carrying package stands staring at camera. Newsboy passes on rt. Holding out newspapers & carrying sign Lusitania horror; 1500 dead etc. (Just a brief glimpse; but definitely legible). C/U seaman in Cunard cap; other men. More crowds walk toward cam; most working-class; several women crying; men look shocked. Then funeral ceremony at graveside.
