Exceptionally well specified when new, we’re of the understanding that this particular Daimler XJ40 4.0 litre, chassis number 706868 with a Coventry a registration ’MDU’ as used by Jaguar / Daimler was built at the end of production, which officially ended June ’94, registered on the 1st May 1995 and then retained by Jaguar / Daimler for VIP use until passing to its first private owner, Mr Bill Martin OBE in 1997.
Proudly presented in Diamond Blue Metallic, this XJ40 4.0 litre model presents herself exceptionally well, the paintwork remaining excellent with a great depth of shine, her chrome trim, specific to the Daimler remains bright and the 16“ Kiwi design alloys look fantastic. The quality continues on the inside too as on opening the door, the Daimler can’t fail to impress. The seats, front and rear remain in beautiful condition, free from any scuffs etc and with the Daimler having its ’air line’ still twin rear seats, unlike the standard bench found in period Jaguars, it’s positively palatial in the rear..... and one cant help but love the beautifully designed fold down picnic tables, it’s the perfect place for any business executive who might need to to stretch out travelling between meetings.
Mechanically the Daimler is gem too. We’ve driven her 50 miles back after collection, the car coming from one of our previous customers. The AJ6 4.0 litre engine simply purrs along, cruise control set, just wafting along in one of Daimlers finest.
With just 84k miles, she’s averaged a less than 3,000 miles/yr over her 29 years and further supporting the superlative condition this Daimler she come with a history file that most classic car owners could only hope to see. There’s the full Daimler book back, stamped service schedule with a remarkable 17 service stamps (8 being Jaguar with all remaining through Jaguar independents), there’s a full set of keys, correspondence and magazine clippings from the Jaguar Enthusiast Club meetings, original tool kit, jack & brace and naturally before delivery to her new owner she’ll receive a further service, engineers health check and new MOT.
Whether your a Jaguar / Daimler enthusiast looking to enhance your collection or a classic car enthusiast looking for something truly special to enjoy on high days and holidays we feel this Daimler XJ40 4 litre is an stunning example and with all that luxury we’d be happy to drive her anywhere!
