This group can be called a kind of response to such legendary teams as Colosseum, Cressida, Spring and Affinity. In fact, the combination of the features of these ensembles - the jazz component of the first, the melody of the second and the expressiveness of the third - gave such an unusual sound, which is called the embryonic fusion of Catapilla. Initially (in the late 60s) the group consisted of Malcolm Frith (drums), Dave Taylor (bass), Graham Wilson (guitar) and a solid (by the standards of that time) brass section (Hugh Eaglestone, Robert Calvert, Thierry Rheinhardt). Singer Joe Meek took his place at the microphone. Some time after the formation of the group, they were noticed by Orange music. They helped the ensemble organize a performance for representatives of the music industry. This led to the fact that in 1971 the group was noticed by Black Sabbath manager Patrick Meehan, who offered his services as a producer when recording the first record.
