Newcastle University researchers have found something disturbing under the soil in the high arctic. The discovery of an antibiotic resistant gene, originally discovered in India 8 years ago, has now travelled over 8,000 miles to a land mostly undisturbed by humans. This gene is commonly associated with super-bugs that are immune to all known antibiotics.
