Porsche 911: Inspired By Le Mans

We hit the road with Ken and his Porsche 911 inspired by the great Steve McQueen movie, Le Mans. This Porsche 911 is full of surprises. Originally based on a 1988 Porsche Carrera 3.2 Convertible, this is now a high end restomod backdate modified Porsche 911 Coupe in Slate Grey buit to reflect the rare and iconic car personally owned and driven by Steve McQueen in the 1971 film, Le Mans. The car was originally a private import from the US into Western Australia where it was registered and driven prior to conversion to RHD. The restomod was undertaken following the sale of the car into Victoria around 2017. Much of the bodywork, paint etc was done by Skunkwerks in Colac to their usual impeccable standards. The wider rear guards of the original 1988 car combined with the current suspension setup presents a bold stance and seductive kerbside presence. Mechanically a 231hp Eurospec 3.2 engine was sourced with a top end rebuild by Toby James at Cairns Automotive some 6 years ago. The performance of the engine is enhanced with extremely rare, recently tuned 46mm IDA Weber carburettors that were fully rebuilt and calibrated by Thornbury Carburettors. SSI headers and custom sports muffler, in conjunction with the induction sound from the Webers, delivers a superb flat six air cooled note. Reproducing a quality restoration/restomod of this calibre is extremely expensive with parts and the later G50 donor cars becoming more and more difficult to find. This is an iconic, classic looking 911 with the comfort, reliabilty and performance of a more modern classic. Thanks for watching the video.
